How to upgrade your Facebook page: Top post ideas for recruiters

Providing inspirational and relevant content for numerous social media platforms day in, day out is no mean feat. It doesn’t matter if you know it’s important and that it has to be done – there’s still bound to be days when inspiration runs dry. It happens to us all, so here’s my top 7 tips on what to update your company Facebook page with when you’re stuck in a social media slump.

Photos

Always a winner on Facebook. A photo is a chance for people to get a glimpse inside your office, and hopefully like what they see. Has someone in your office got their hands on a packet of fake moustaches (this does happen)? Or left you a silly post-it just to make you smile? Snap a photo and upload it. Anything which is harmless, in good humour and of course with the permission of the subject will go down a treat on Facebook.

Other ones to consider are staff photos (people like to put faces to names), name dropping shots (eg our very own Joe Bloggs with President Obama!) and activity shots (like ‘our team at the XYZ workshop’).

Pictures

So not an actual photograph, but something less personal and equally engaging. Relevant motivational pictures are always nice, and a fun meme will usually get a response too. Just don’t fall into the trap of treating your company page like your personal Facebook page. Make sure that any fun pictures you post are in some way relevant to your target audience. For example, if you specialise in tech recruitment, a political philosophy meme probably isn’t going to do well – no matter how funny it is.

Videos

As with photos and pictures, relevant videos are great for generating discussion. Keep an eye out for viral videos circulating the recruitment industry and your niche market. Also, if you use video marketing (which we’d highly recommend) then Facebook is a great place to show it off.

Office news

Things like a welcome shout out to a new employee, moving to a new office or an upcoming night out are all perfectly acceptable on Facebook, as it’s generally accepted as the most social of all the social media sites!

Events

If you are participating in, attending or sponsoring an industry event, announce it on Facebook! Even events which aren’t strictly industry related but inject a bit of personality and conversation are generally good. For example if your team has decided to do Tough Mudder (madness), or if someone is taking part in a fun run or skydive for a good cause.

Awards

I probably don’t have to mention this one, as if you win an award you’re bound to be mega chuffed and shouting about it anyway! But Facebook is definitely a place where it’s okay to get super excited about this, so let everyone know how just how thrilled you are. Also, if you won an award a few months ago and your likes have doubled since then – it’s okay to post about it again as long as you’re not going way OTT. Something like “Did you know that <company name> won the X award at this year’s Z” is mild enough for you to get away with once or twice without being annoying.

Blogs

Not Facebook specific, but it’s a great idea to share your latest company blog across all social media platforms as you’ll attract different readers from different sites.


As ever, moderation is key. It’s much better to have somewhat fewer posts that are good and well-aimed than it is to spam your connections with crap every few hours. The last thing you want is for anyone to Unlike or Hide Posts from your page, which they will do if they’re annoyed by your content.
